Hardison & Cochran Client Awarded Workers' Compensation Benefits Again After Full Commission Hearing
In late December of last year, we brought you the story of James Hunt. To recap, Mr. Hunt, who is a former principal and former Marine living in Robeson County, was shot while driving to work by an unknown person. After the shooting, Mr. Hunt put in a claim in for workers' compensation, but he was denied benefits. In December, the North Carolina Industrial Commission ruled in favor of Mr. Hunt and he began receiving benefits. This decision was appealed and the matter was discussed again in front of a full commission on May 10th, 2011.
On June 22nd, Mr. Hunt was once again awarded workers' compensation benefits after the full commission ruled that the injury was work related. Mr. Hunt is represented by Hardison & Cochran Managing Partner and Board Certified Specialist in North Carolina Workers' Compensation Law, Benjamin Cochran.

The History of Workers' Compensation
Do you know the history behind the workers' compensation system in the United States? While the rules differ from state to state, the aim of each is the same. Helping injured workers maintain and get the medical attention in which they are entitled. If you don't know the history or how it came to then don't worry we found just what you need. Produced by young adults from Nimitz High School located in Houston, Texas, the above video was created for a History Day contest in 2008. We don't know if the team won or not, but there is no doubt this is a very well done and well researched piece. Now, when someone asks, "What is workers' compensation?", you can ask them to set a spell while you explain.

Safety Tips: Working In The North Carolina Heat
Temprature highs across North Carolina are reaching up into the triple digits this week. If you have lived in North Carolina during the summer months, it's safe to say you know the temprature is only half of the story when it comes to how it feels outside. We're talking about the heat index. The difference between it being just hot and sweltering hot.
The heat we are experiencing right now should be taken with caution. If your job requires you to work outside or you are a weekend warrior with around the house projects, please make sure you are hydrated. If, during the course of work, you feel uncomfortable, let someone know and take a few minutes to cool down inside or at least in the shade. The Internet is full of information on how to keep cool while working. Below you will find some information on working in the heat and ways to keep cool.
